What are CVV and 3D Secure?

Both are security checks you'll meet when you deposit by card.

CVV

The CVV (also called CVC or security code) is the three-digit number on the back of your card, to the right of the signature strip. We ask for it together with your card number and expiry date: it shows that the card is in your hands.

3D Secure

3D Secure is your card issuer's own identity check. It runs after you enter your card details and before the payment goes through. Visa calls it Visa Secure, Mastercard calls it Mastercard Identity Check and JCB calls it J/Secure. Usually you approve the payment in your card issuer's app or enter a one-time code sent by SMS; some issuers ask for a password you set up with them.

We only accept cards registered for 3D Secure. If the check doesn't appear, fails, or the code never arrives, contact your card issuer to register the card or update your phone number, then try again.

Good to know

  • Keep them private. Never share your CVV or a one-time code with anyone. Zentrader staff will never ask you for them.
